Defective lift: RWA president alleges sabotage

Even as a defective lift is causing jitters among the residents of tower ‘M’ at Shatabdi Rail Vihar in Noida Sector 62, RWA president, Ganpath Singh, added fuel to the fire by accusing the maintenance providing company, Johnson, of sabotage. He told City Spidey that the agency had written to the RWA suggesting replacement of the lift calling it very old and hence beyond repair.

Meanwhile, as the lift is lying non-functional for a month, occupants of the tower, especially those residing in flats on higher floors of the nine-story tower, have no option but to climb up the stairs to reach their flats panting and gasping.

The fact that the society is home to many senior citizens, retired from railway service, adds to the urgency for restoration of the lift. The residents’ grouse is that they are being made to suffer even after paying a staggering Rs 2.13 lakh as annual service charge.

The residents have had several faceoffs with Johnson Pvt Ltd over the issue. They say that the company, hired exclusively for maintenance of the lifts in the society, failed to spot the technical fault of the lift.

DK Pandey, a resident of the society, told City Spidey that it has become extremely difficult, especially for senior citizens, to step out of their homes with the faulty lift. He said, "For them, climbing the tower by stairs is a Herculean task which increases their palpitation and get their pulse racing. It can even cause stroke for those suffering from heart ailments.”

He added that condition of lifts in other towers is no better. In fact, all the lifts in the society are suffering due to poor maintenance.

When City Spidey approached Johnson Pvt. Ltd., an official, on condition of anonymity, said that general manager of the company, Pankaj Sharma, was out of station and will be back after two days. "The company will be able to respond to media queries once the GM returns," said the official.
