The Delhi Metro has installed 10 extra Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at the new Hauz Khas station and 6 at Janakpuri West stations in order to ensure smooth movement of commuters at the new interchange stations of Line-8 (Magenta Line).

As a result, the total number of AFC gates have increased from 12 to 22 at Hauz Khas and from 6 to 12 at Janakpuri (West) metro stations. Furthermore, the old Hauz Khas station (Yellow Line) already contains 7 AFC gates and Janakpuri (West) Station (Blue Line) 13 AFC gates respectively.

Anuj Dayal, Executive Director of DMRC’s Corporate Communications, said, “Three more trains have been added to the Red Line (On Line 1) and Blue Line (Line-3) each, thus increasing the total number of trains to 29 and 64 respectively. Similarly, on Line-2 (Yellow Line), the total number of trains have been increased to 55 from 54."

"The frequency of trains between Qutab Minar and HUDA City Centre has also increased from 4 minutes and 11 seconds to 2 minutes and 47 seconds. Further, all the trains arriving from Vishwavidyalaya are terminating at HUDA City Centre nowadays, whereas earlier some of them used to terminate at Qutab Minar," Dayal further added.

Moreover, the frequency of trains on the Red Line has increased from 3 minutes and 20 seconds to 3 minutes and 6 seconds. On the other hand, the frequency of trains has increased from 2 minutes 46 seconds to 2 minutes and 40 seconds on the Blue line.”

The increase in the number of trains has also led to a hike in the number of trips on the aforementioned lines. The red line is witnessing 25 more trips nowadays, whereas the blue line is witnessing 43 more trips.

Further, the total train trips have increased from 3650 to 3735 across the network, including the fully operational Magenta Line.
