Market visitors said that there has been no action from SDMC to check these haphazard ways of dumping waste. They stressed that people brazenly ignore the ban on the dumping of waste in open areas because SDMC has never prosecuted the violators.

Dwarka: Ignorant residents, SDMC make mockery of waste management

The garbage management remains a big concern all across Dwarka due to the ignorance of residents and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). The segregation of dry and wet waste is also not being followed at any place in the area.

Due to the lack of proper space for dumping, the waste can be easily seen scattered on roads and green areas. Besides, people are also caring least to dump the waste into green and blue dustbins which were provided by SDMC.

The people in markets also safely ignore the waste management norms of SDMC and throw the waste at any place. The situation is almost same in all the markets at sectors 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12. Filth can be seen around these markets making the environment very unhealthy.

A resident of Sector-4, Nikhil Anand, said, “The situation is worst at the Sector-4 market. People do not use dustbins and throw waste on roads and within the market premises. People are also in the habit of dumping waste building materials in green areas causing environmental hazards.”

Market visitors said that there has been no action from SDMC to check these haphazard ways of dumping waste. They stressed that people brazenly ignore the ban on the dumping of waste in open areas because SDMC has never prosecuted the violators.

A resident of Sector-6, Shikha Sharma, said, “Officials very well know that there is a problem but still they don’t care to act against it. The area representatives are also cognizant of the problem but they don’t take action against violators because of their own reasons.”

“Everyone seems to be comfortable with the present state of Dwarka and hence the initiatives taken by the SDMC regarding sanitation in the area are totally meaningless. It would certainly not be an exaggeration to say that people have failed the Clean India Mission in Dwarka,” said Sharma.

When City Spidey contacted Radha Krishnan, Director Press Information SDMC, he said that they will take the subject into concern and take the needed steps.
