Gurgaon police arrested three people for blackmailing a doctor on Thursday. They were arrested in Bhubaneswar and taken on transit remand to Gurgaon.

According to the police, the main accused, Saurabh Prakash Nayak, had created a fake profile by the name of Shakti Arora on a matrimonial site. He met the victim on the site and they exchanged numbers.

"He got hold of semi-nude photos of the doctor and started blackmailing her," said Hawa Singh, CPRO of Gurgaon police. "His associate Shakti Datta Sambhal abetted in extorting Rs 3.1 lakh from her.”

The victim lodged a complaint with the police for help. All the technical work was carried out by Inspector Sudhir, in-charge Cyber Crime branch, Gurgaon, and the culprits were traced to Empires Hotel, Bhubaneswar. A team led by SI Rajesh from the Sector 56 police station, accompanied by Cyber Crime branch HC Manoj and ASI Chandrakanta (women's police station), was sent to Bhubaneswar to locate the criminals.

Three culprits — two bank-account holders and mastermind Nayak — were arrested within 24 hours of the complaint. The team managed to recover Rs 1.23 lakh, along with ATM cards, cheque books and mobile phones.
