Gurgaon: Oustees of Expressway get alternative plots after a decade of struggle

The oustees of Dwarka Expressway are finally relieved as they got their alternative plots from Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) after the directions from the Punjab and Haryana high court.

With this, the oustees’ long battle with the authority and government to get alternative plots also ended. Many of the oustees recalled their struggles to get their lands.

They said that it all started in 2007 when they started running after politicians and other influential persons to get their alternative lands. They recalled that there was no help from anyone in this regard except for empty assurances.

The oustees knocked the door of the Punjab and Haryana high court in 2008 and only after years of proceedings, they got relief as Huda entered into an agreement with the litigants. But finally, after a decade of struggle, they got their alternative plots on Friday.

“I am happy, relieved and my happiness is like offering food to a man who has starved for a month. There were several hurdles and after crossing each one a new obstacle came. I am thankful to the judiciary for upholding the rights of the common man, which get trampled in every file in government offices”, said Puran Chand Sharma, an oustee, who got an alternative plot in sector 37C.

Another oustee Vishnu Datt Sharma, who originally hails from Dadri in UP and has been staying with his family since over a decade in Gurugram, said they have been living an unsettled life for last three years. “I have invested everything in my house and it was shocking to know that the HUDA had decided not to allot plots to GPA/SPA holders. The struggle was very arduous and I hope that no more legal hurdle crops up now”, said Sharma.
