The opposition to construction of landfill at Sector-123 has got bigger and bigger as the days progressed. Now, both residents from rural as well as urban areas assembled at the landfill site and conducted mahapanchayat against the landfill on Sunday. Over a thousand people gathered at the site to participate in mahapanchayat.

On the other hand, thousands of residents of high rise societies in Noida Extension carried out a protest march against the landfill. The protest march was started from the Gaur City and ended at the Gaur Chowk. The residents raised slogans against the Noida Authority and the state government.

The residents are not stopping here. They have also called “Noida Bandh” as a protest against landfill on the coming Friday. Political parties and other groups have also agreed over “Noida Bandh.” The residents will be carrying out protests against landfill at different places in the city.

A resident informed that a group of protesters will also be conducting a protest outside the premises of Noida Authority on Friday.

Residents from nearby areas said that they do not want any dump yard or waste to energy plant here and they only want green and clean environment for them and future generation.

Anupam Oberoi, a resident of Sector-120, said, “I am not going to vote for BJP after this decision of making a landfill in the locality which can cause a serious health issues to his family in future. “Even the villagers and other residents decided that the entry of BJP leaders should be banned because even after ten days of protests, no local pubic representatives have turned up,” he added.

On May 29, the National Green Terminal (NGT) issued an interim order to Noida Authority to immediately stop dumping of waste at a forest in Sector-54 in response to a petition filled by nearby RWAs of the sectors.

After that, Noida Authority started digging work at Sector-123 for making a dump yard for city waste and also started making waste to energy plant. The residents are carrying out protests since the construction of landfill started. The police have also sent 26 protesters into the jail.

According to master plan 2031, the solid landfill at Sector-123 was proposed in the recreational green area which is a contradiction in itself. According to an environmentalist, the recreational green area is dedicated for development of greenery area.
