Noida: RWA seeks security after attack on sanitation staffs by striking workers

Following the attack on alternate sanitation workers by striking sanitation workers, the resident welfare association (RWA) of Sector-51 wrote a letter to Sector-49 police station asking them to provide proper security cover to carry out sanitation activities in the area.

Sanjeev Kumar, General Secretary of Sector-51 told City Spidey that they requested the Noida Authority to make arrangements to clean piled garbage in the area as contractual sanitation workers were on strike in last three weeks.

“After several talks with the Noida Authority officials, they agreed that the contractor will provide alternate sanitation staff on Wednesday. They provided 20 workers to clean the area. But, just after the 25 minutes of work, a group of striking sanitation workers attacked the alternate workers. The group was successful in halting the cleanliness work in Block-A and Block-B,” Kumar said.

Kumar further said that they demanded the security cover for the workers from the SP City, District Magistrate and SO of the area on the Whatsapp and also written an application for the same to the Sector-49 police station.

“So, we demanded the security for the worker who wants to do the work in Sector-51 and also sent the copy of the letter to district magistrate, SSP and SP office,” Kumar added.

The sanitation workers are on strike for the last three weeks affecting the cleaning work in the city. They are on the contracts and demanding a raise in their salaries and clarity in employees' insurance and provident fund from 2015 to 2018. They also want compensation for workers in case of any mishap.

Avnish Dixit, Station Officer of Sector-49 said that the Noida Authority should have arranged temporary cleanliness staffs. “We got the information about the incident when the fight got over. The medical check-up was also done by the police. Only a worker got minor injuries in his leg but now he is fine,” Dixit said.

Dixit also said that he can’t take any action on the striking worker till the time he receives any complaint from the workers. “It is the conflict between the two groups of the workers in which one group wants to do the work whereas the other wants no work till the strike gets over. So, Noida Authority should do something to make sure the strike gets over,” he added.
