Could Noida be freed of garbage in the next couple of years? Perhaps yes!

Dumpsite remediation and management MoU was signed between Zigma Global Environ Solutions Pvt Ltd, a Tamil Nadu-based company, and Noida Authority today for working on the existing waste of Noida and handing over the reclaimed land within two years’ time to the authority.

Zigma will work in a joint venture with Force Bell, a South Korean company.

Noida Authority will provide 6.5 lakh tonnes of garbage to the company in two years, and the company will charge Rs 1,193 per tonne.

Nagesh Prabhu, director of the Zigma, spoke to City Spidey on the initiative. We will use the bio-mining technique for dealing with 6.5 lakh tonnes of waste. In the bio-mining technique, we will make bricks from construction waste and sell these bricks. From the wet garbage, we will make Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), which can replace coal to generate power,” he explained.

Work is expected to start within a month.

“During the first three months, we will stabalize the garbage, so the foul smell stops. After three to four months, we will start the remediation process and initiate removing the garbage from the place. After cleaning out the place, we will hand over the area to Noida Authority. The authority has asked us to clean Sector 54 and 123 first before moving on to other areas,” Prabhu said.

“Noida generates around 650 tonnes of garbage every day, and in the coming days, it will cross the 1,000-tonne-per-day mark. We were thus forced to hire the company for the remediation process,” an official of Noida Authority stressed.
