Bus commuters in Dwarka are facing a rough time this summer as they wait for their vehicle to arrive in bus shelters with damaged roofs.
Two such shelters can be found at Dwarka flyover, the busiest stops in the area. This is the stop from where you can hail buses for South West Delhi, Central Delhi and New Delhi Railway Station. Many bus routes like 764, 765, RL75, 76, 78, 851 pass this stop. Thousands of commuters take buses from this bus shelter.
Similarly, shelters in Sectors 7, 8, and 3 can be seen with damaged roofs.
Swati Thakur, a commuter, commented, “These two bus queue shelters are the busiest, as people from Dwarka, Palam, Mahavir Enclave board buses from here. With the start of rains, it is really tough for us to wait there. Authorities should repair these shelters as soon as possible. In fact, such measures should have been taken before the summers, or at least, before the monsoon.”
And then, there places in Dwarka where there are no bus queue shelters.
For instance in Sectors 4, 12, 13, 14,16,17,18,19,22,23. Such places have only signage to signify a bus stop.
DC Mathur, general secretary of Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi, and a resident of New Kanchanjunga Apartments in Sector 23, said, “A survey to construct bus queue shelters in the area was done in 2012 by the DTC, but nothing concrete happened after that. We were a part of that survey and we showed them the places for bus queue shelters.”
City Spidey spoke to MLA Matiala Gulab Singh Yadav on the matter. He said, “Gaps the in administrative decisions between the L-G and Delhi Government have delayed things. The estimates for construction of bus queue shelters was sent earlier, but was not cleared due to administrative gaps. But things should move now after the SC held that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi is bound by the “aid and advice” of the popularly-elected government.”
Another MLA Bhavna Gaud said, “The two flyovers at Dwarka Flyover will be repaired soon, but for others at Sectors 1, 7, I will visit the spot and do what is required to be done.”
