Noida Authority begins cleaning of drain in Sector 51

The cleaning of the irrigation drain in Sector 51, Block C, has finally begun after Federation of Noida RWAs (FONRWA) raised the issue with Noida Authority.

On July 12, FONRWA president and members visited the irrigation drain near Kendriya Vihar in Sector 51 — it was filled with mud and silt.

Sanjeev Kumar, FONRWA general secretary, said, “The situation of this (Category-A) sector drain is really bad. Near Manav Rachna School and LPS School the drain has been covered by both the schools, and they have not provided any openings to clean the big drain and nor any space for rainwater to drain out. Even with light showers, the road becomes waterlogged.”

He added, “The drain towards Sector 72, too, is completely chocked by construction waste of Metro. The condition near VDS Market is worse, as the drain towards Shashikant Marg, Hoshiyarpur Market, has been encroached upon by shopkeepers.”

An official of Noida Authority said the cleaning of all drains in the city has been going on since the last two months, including irrigation drains. “We are hoping that we will be done with all the cleaning work in two weeks’ time,” the official said.
