Dwarka: Potholes, cracks make life worse for commuters in rainy season

The potholes and cracks on master plan roads are making commuter’s lives difficult in Dwarka. The condition of roads is especially worse at the circles and turns which increase the risk of accidents in the area. During the rains, bikers are more vulnerable to accidents.

There is a turn from road number 201 towards Sector-6 near Rudra Apartments which is in a very bad shape. The surface of the road at the turning point is full of cracks and potholes. Bikers often find it difficult to take the cut towards the sector.

SK Malik, a resident of Youngsters Apartments, said, “This turn has become dangerous because of cracks and potholes. I have seen twice that bikers fell down due to the damaged road. This turn must be repaired as soon as possible.”

Residents said that the particular place had been in bad shape for over six months despite people demanding its immediate repair.

The story is almost the same for the circles and the turns on road 201. Some of the damaged surfaces like near Dwarka International School in Sector-12 and near Prodyogiki Apartments in Sector-3, the road has been in a damaged state for more than a year.

VK Gupta, a resident of Sector-12, said, “DDA did the temporary filling of potholes at the circle near Dwarka International School. But, it did not help people for long. These days, the temporary filling is in a broken state. At these points, DDA must do the effective and immediate repair so that no commuters face the problem.”

The service roads along the two roads are in bad shape. The stretch in front of DPS Dwarka is completely broken and has developed big potholes. People said that the particular stretch had been in such condition for last two years.

One of the DDA officials on the condition of anonymity said, “The responsibility for maintenance of roads in Dwarka will be shifted to PWD. However, the process is yet to be completed. This is the main reason for DDA for not repairing the roads. We can do temporary repairing of particular patches which was started ahead of the rainy season.”
