When students of Ahlcon Public School in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase-1 entered the school on Wednesday morning, they heard talks of the arrest of principal and two other teachers. Many of them were not sure about the information as the arrest was made late night on Tuesday.

When they contacted a school staff to validate the information, he refused to comment on the arrest of the principal and teachers. He said, “They are on leave.”

The school principal, Dharmendra Goel, teachers Neeraj Anand and Rajiv Sehgal were arrested by Noida police following Allahabad High Court’s direction on Ekisha Shah’s suicide case. Shah, a student of class 9th had committed suicide at her home in Noida on March 19 this year.

After seeing no action against the school and the teachers, parents had approached the Allahabad High Court seeking justice to their daughter’s suicide.

On May 16, the High Court had observed, “The contents raised in the writ petition display a very disturbing situation.” The High Court had summoned a senior police official of Noida, Ajay Pal Sharma, and the Investigation Officer (IO) in the case.

Ekisha’s parents had alleged that her daughter was physically harassed and mentally tortured by two teachers (Neeraj Anand and Rajiv Sehgal) who forced her to end life.

On the basis of the complaint of her parents, Noida police had then registered case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and POCSO Act under IPC.

Noida police claimed to have found nothing against the teachers and school management. The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) had also conducted a separate inquiry but claimed to have found nothing against the school. The child rights body had also written to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) urging it to intervene in the matter.

Exasperated with no action against principal and teachers of the school by Noida police, parents had even demanded CBI investigation in the case. Earlier, a day-long protest at Delhi-Noida link road at Mayur Vihar Phase-1 had brought the Delhi traffic police on their toes. The protest had resulted in huge traffic jams on both the sides (Noida to Delhi and Delhi to Noida) for more than five hours.
