Residents unhappy with GNIDA’s response to demand of structure audit

The residents of high rises in Noida Extension are not satisfied with the response of Greater Noida Authority over the request for structure audit of their buildings. The residents got very anxious after the collapse of two 6 storeyed building in Shahberi area of Greater Noida and demanded structure audit of their buildings.

The residents also sent an e-mail to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, in which they demanded structure audit of their societies.

Vikas Kumar, a resident of Panchsheel Green in Noida Extension, told City Spidey that he made his complaint about the structure audit to the district magistrate.

The DM had forwarded that complaint to Greater Noida Authority. The Authority replied that the NOC was given on the basis of the report prepared by the IIT Roorkee in 2010. “Now, the scenario has changed after the Shahberi incident, so we want a fresh report on the towers,” he added.

The residents sent a mail to the CM in which they demanded 6 points:

1. Is the building approved as per the same design?

2. Is there some illegal construction done by the developer in the building against the approved design?

3. What type of material was used at the time of construction? Was the used material as per the quality approved design and standards?

4. Are the pillars of the buildings capable of taking the load of the tower?

5. Is there a need of repair work where the structure is weak?

6. Have water logging and seepages affected the structure of the beam and pillar?

“We want answers to all the questions. We requested the CM to take necessary actions. He should address the concerns of his voters” Kumar said.

Sameer Bhardwaj, a resident of Supertech Eco-Village in Noida Extension, said that they also raised the same demand but the Greater Noida Authority did not give the answer and forwarded the demand to the builder.

The builder did nothing and they have also not followed the builder-buyer agreement.

Now, every high rise resident hopes that the state government takes the needful action after the building collapses in Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.

Structure audit checks the quality of construction material used in the buildings. The strength of the buildings columns, beams, pillars, iron bars and plaster, sewage discharge systems, water pipeline systems, electrical cabin and wiring system, lifts, podiums etc are checked during the audit.

The residents said, “The builders have not used the high-quality materials. Plaster of the wall and ceilings have fallen in many flats on many occasions. But, the district administration has been silent over this. They are just waiting for a big casualty in high rise societies just like the Shahberi incident.”

BK Tripathi, Additional Chief Executive Officer of Greater Noida Authority, told City Spidey that no separate staffs have been assigned for the audit. “If the state government approves the demand then Greater Noida Authority will contact the right persons for the job. Then, the structure audit will be done,” he added.

“After the Shahberi and Ghaziabad incident, we are checking the illegal construction work in the Greater Noida area. We will demolish the illegal structures,” he added.

On March 13, a portion of plaster fell from the ceiling in a flat in Panchsheel Greens 2 in Noida Extension. Fortunately, no one was present in the room. The same kind of incident happened on April 6 this year when a chunk of plaster fell in the apartment’s balcony in Civitech Sampriti in Sector-77 in Noida. It damaged a “Datsun Go” car from top and back.

There are more than two hundred high rise societies in Noida and Greater Noida. Many incidents of the falling of plaster and people getting stuck in lift have been witnessed. Residents alleged that the builder used the bad quality of materials in the construction of the societies.
