Indirapuram: 34-year-old man dies of electrocution at Shipra Sun City

The residents of Indirapuram woke up with waterlogged roads and shocking news of the death of a 34-year-old man Sarojkant Das who was electrocuted at Indirapuram's Shipra Sun City. Saroj is originally from the city of Dharbanga in Bihar.

Saroj reportedly returned home after dropping his 5-year-old daughter at the bus stop for school bus. Then, he came out again to get some flowers for her wife for the everyday worship at home. At the society park, he came in contact of a live wire and collapsed on the spot.

Slippers of Saroj at the spot

Rakesh Rai, a resident of Shipra Sun City, and one of the witnesses said, “Four people who were walking nearby saw him getting electrocuted and ran to save him. But, they couldn’t as they had also felt the shock as well.”

Residents immediately called the police and took him to a nearby Shanti Gopal Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Open wires around the trenches

Mukesh Singh, a neighbour of Saroj, said, “The cleanliness and maintenance of the trench in Shipra Sun City was pending for 3 years. Just a few days back, only trenches were cleaned and were lying open.

“Wiring of DG also passes near the trenches and there is a chance that the wire came out and got damaged during maintenance. Since the work was not checked, it proved fatal for Saroj as it was full of water and he probably was not able to see the wire,” said Singh.

Residents alleged that the incident could have been averted if the elected AOA worked timely and effectively.  As per the sources, the family of the victim is ready to file an FIR against the RWA members.

Assistant SP, Ravi Kumar said, “Dead body has been for sent for post-mortem. Nobody from family or society has filed any complaint. We will be able to take some action only after Post Mortem report is with us.”

Mukesh Singh further said, “RWA President is claiming in front of everyone that Saroj died of heart attack. He is trying his best to influence the team conducting the post-mortem to hide their negligence towards the maintenance of the society.”

The incident has once again highlighted the apathy of civic agencies in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram. Shipra Sun City witnessed severe waterlogging amid heavy rains as drains remained clogged. Phase II of the society is completely immersed in water.
