Noida: Residents of high rise societies face severe waterlogging after rains

After the heavy rains, the residents of high rises in Noida are facing the waterlogging problem in their societies. Some of the societies are also facing power cuts and truncated water supply. Lifts are also not working in some of the societies.

The residents said that the civic body and the developer have not learned any lesson from the past.

Last year, many societies and roads had turned into a swimming pool after the rains. The civic bodies in Noida and Greater Noida have failed to address the perennial waterlogging problem.

Joginder Singh, a resident of Amrapali Zodiac society in Sector-120, told City Spidey that there is no power supply since 8 am in the morning which has affected the lift operations.

“Lifts are not working. School students and office goers have not been able to attend schools and offices respectively. I was also unable to go to the office,” Singh said.

Singh added, “The Basement-2 has been completely inundated. Residents have not been able to use their cars. Now, the maintenance team is using the water pump to take the water out from there.”

Neeraj Singh, a resident of Amrapali Silicon in Sector-76, said, “Water entered into the balcony of an apartment on the 5th floor through the drainage pipe. The drainage pipe was installed for the waste water of flats. The drain was chocked due to the garbage and waste material.”

Sameer Bhardwaj, a resident of Supertech Eco Village in Noida Extension, said that the basement and the other areas of the society were full of water after the rain.

An official of Noida Authority said that there is no solution of this problem unless the drainage system improves. “We cleaned the all the small and big drains of the city to resolve the waterlogging problem,” official said.

The Noida Authority claimed before the monsoon that cleaning work of city’s main irrigation drain is 100 per cent complete. The authority had allocated Rs 4.5 crore budget for cleaning work of city’s biggest drain.
