Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that the solar energy would be made available for the people of Delhi at the rate of Rs 1 per unit or lesser. In order to implement this, the Delhi Government is currently framing a policy which will soon be introduced in the National Capital. The CM was addressing a gathering today evening at Ispatika Apartments, Sector 4, Dwarka in an inaugural function of solar power system at the society. He said that the project had been initiated in Dwarka and till now a total of 27 societies have adopted solar power systems and another hundred have shown interest in adopting the system. “Till now we have not promoted the scheme as we want to bring the cost post subsidy to Rs 1 per unit or lesser. Currently, it is at Rs 2.64 per unit after the subsidy. I am working with state power minister Satyendra Jain on this and the policy will be introduced soon. Then we will be promoting the scheme at a much faster pace.”

The Chief Minister, in his address, focused on the welfare of the community and appealed to the people to use the facilities provided by the Delhi Government. He asked the people to maintain the parks in their neighbourhood and assured them that the maintenance activities would be given full financial support by the government. He also said that CCTV cameras would be provided to the societies soon. “RWAs, local police and the concerned agency would decide the location for the installation of CCTV cameras. Post installation, the maintenance would be the responsibility of the installing agency for five years,” said the CM. He also inaugurated the solar system at Balaji Apartments, Sector 6.

President and secretary of four RWAs like Saksham Apartments, Navratan Apartments, Ispatika Apartments and Supriya Apartments were given certificates of appreciation for adopting the system. MLA of Matiala, Gulab Singh Yadav, MLA of Janakpuri, Rajesh Rishi, MLA of Uttam Nagar, Naresh Balyan and MLA of Pala, Bhavna Gaur were also present for the occasion. Also in attendance was BSES CEO, Amol Sinha.

On the occasion, RWAs of various societies also came to meet the CM and apprise him of the problems they were facing. A team of representatives of various RWAs of Sector 7 asked the CM to get the wine and beer shop near Ramphal Chowk removed as its presence was creating nuisance in the area. Anurag Behl, one of the representatives from that team, shared, “We met him for a few minutes as he was short on time. But he has invited us to visit him day after tomorrow to discuss our issues.”

Ispatika Apartments Solar System facts and figure

City Spidey had a talk with the President of Ispatika Apartments, Sector 4, Rakesh Gupta, where the solar system was inaugurated. He shared some facts and figures regarding the solar system installation. According to him the system has been installed on the basis of RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model. The solar system’s power generation capacity is 130 Kilo Watts and the total expenditure with subsidy from state government has been made by the company which installed the system. “We gave them our rooftop and they installed the system. About 60 lakh is the total expenditure in which the State Government Subsidy to the company is 30 per cent. Now we will purchase the electricity from the company that installed it at the rate of Rs 4.63 per unit. We have adopted the model under a scheme in which there is a subsidy from the Central Government which is Rs 2 per unit till 31st March 2020. In this way we have to pay only Rs 2.63 per unit to the company.”

According to Gupta the total power consumption in the society is about 300 Kilo Watts. Now with the new system in place they have to use only 170 Kilo Watts from the grid and rest can be from the solar power system. “We will pay Rs 2.63 per unit for 130 KW which means we will be saving money for that quantity. Currently, the electricity rate from the grid is about Rs 6.20 per unit, so this solar power system is beneficial for us. The agreement with the company is for the next 25 years.” said Gupta.
