Noida Police is still in the dark about the identity of the gang who robbed a techie, Akhil Chadha, at gunpoint near Omaxe Grand in Sector 93B, Noida. S P Singh, Noida Phase 2 SHO, confirmed to City Spidey that the police are still on the hunt, but so far they have no leads.

On May 5, at around 9.30pm, Chadha went to Atta Market of Sector 18 to make a few purchases for his parents. On his way back home in Omaxe Grand, a white SUV hit his car from behind.  When he stepped out to check the damage, seven to eight people brandishing rods, sticks and pistols surrounded him and started beating him up. He was also shot at but managed to survive.  The gang took off with his i10, wallet and mobile phone.

The residents of Grand Omaxe are a worried lot. They feel that the area is least patrolled by the police. “We are planning to meet Noida SSP, Kiran S, on Wednesday and demand better police arrangements in the sector. The gangs can roam freely in the area because they know that the roads around these societies are left completely unprotected,” a resident of Omaxe Grand, Surya Prakash, told City Spidey. The area comes under Sector 82 police post, which is 2 km away from Grand Omaxe. “We have been demanding a new post in our sector, but everything is happening too slowly,” he added.

Chadha said even more alarming is the fact that passersby, which included residents of Omaxe Grand too, didn’t help. The incident took place just 500m from the apartment’s main gate.

The episode has traumatised the entire family, and they are planning to shift back to Delhi from where they had moved two-and half-years ago.

The victim’s father, Ashok Chadha, is still waiting for the police to take action.
