On the occasion of Independence Day, Noida Authority will conduct a plantation drive across the city. According to an official, Noida Authority will plant 86,725 saplings at more than 30 places such as parks, roadsides and under metro rail corridors.

Rajeev Tyagi, General Manager of Noida Authority, told City Spidey that the drive will be carried out in sectors 37, 56, 60, 62, 72, 74, 144, 145, 122, 150, 151, 166, 167, 137, 115, 123, 120, 121, 122 and 123 among other places in Noida and Greater Noida Expressway. “A variety of plants like neem, jamun, tecoma, dwarf palm and areca palm will be planted under the metro corridors and elevated road,” he added.

Noida Authority has also invited people for the drive. Several residents from various sectors have already joined the initiative and have expressed their willingness to take part in this drive. RWA members and residents from high-rises have given the authority full support for this drive.

The preparatory work for the plantation drive is almost complete and the soil bed has already been prepared with manure in different parts of the city.

Amit Gupta, a resident of Prateek Wisteria in Sector 77, said that this time Noida Authority has invited residents for the initiative. Noida Authority will provide the plants and the authority officials themselves will be present at every location with residents and will plant the saplings in collaboration. “I also have joined the movement and I am also sending out invitations to lots of other people to join,” he added.

“The trees around us are extremely important and have always been necessary for improving the human condition - both during a tree’s life and after a tree’s harvest. It would not be stretching things if one were to say that without trees, we humans would not be able to exist on this beautiful planet,” Ramesh Tiwari, a resident of Sector-18, said.

In June, contracts were awarded to private firms for providing plants and manure. The contractors will also be maintaining the plants.
