Strengthening our belief in freedom and unity, and rooting for a green and clean environment will be the main themes of this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Noida. RWAs, authorities and residents of Noida have planned a string of cultural activities for the day – planting 84,725 saplings, marathons and run for all ages, and sports and kite-flying festivals.

Noida Authority has set aside a budget of Rs 22 crore for the planting drive to increase green cover. The drive aims to plant more than 4 lakh saplings by November 2018. The authority has decided to plant as many as 84,725 saplings on August 15 at different locations.

The drive will cover various areas in sectors 37, 44, 56, 60, 62, 63, 74, 122, 123, 115, 144, 145, 150, 166, 167, 137 and other parts of the town, including under the elevated track of Noida-Greater Noida Metro link.

In the run up to Independence Day, residents of Noida have planned several activities on the theme of freedom and unity. Rajiva Singh, president of Noida Federation AOA and also president of Stellar Kings Court, Sector 50, told City Spidey that residents will start their morning with a 2-km Run for Freedom. The participants holding the tricolour will start the run at 6.30 am from Megdhutam Park in Sector 50 and finish at the same place.

“Thereafter, we have a number of fun activities lined up for kids at Stellar Kings Court like kite flying and sports competitions,” added Singh.

The residents of Supertech Capetown, a high-rise in sector 74, have also planned a run, a kite-flying competition and a kavi sammelan. “Our Run for Nation will start at 5.30 am from the society gate no 1 and go through the sectors 74, 75, 77 before finishing at the same gate,” said Bhupendra Routela, a resident of Supertech Capetown. “After that, there will be a flag-hoisting programme, followed by a kite-flying festival and a kavi sammelan with Dr Mahesh Sharma, Union Minister as the chief guest,” he added.
