Gurgaon: Two snakes rescued safely from pit at construction site in Sec 33

Few construction labourers spotted two snakes, a 6-foot-long rat snake and a 5-foot-long, black-headed royal snake, in a 6-foot deep pit at an upcoming residential site in Sector-33 in Gurgaon.

The snakes were rescued from the pit and are currently under observation. Once they will become fit, they will be released into the natural habitat.

They were spotted by the construction labourers who immediately contacted the Wildlife SOS helpline.

Two rescuers responded promptly and reached the spot immediately. The snakes were trapped in the pit. As per the officials, the snakes got into the pit as it was left uncovered.

Sahil Sharma, project manager of the site, said that they frequently spot snakes roaming in and around the construction area.

Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder and CEO, Wildlife SOS Helpline, said, with increasing urbanization, construction, shrinking habitats, and a loss of natural prey base, wild animals are often forced to move into human settlements in search of easy prey.

“Very few snake species in Delhi are actually venomous, and even then they will not attack until they are provoked or threatened. We are glad that people nowadays consider calling experts, instead of trying to deal with the matter themselves, or worse, kill such snakes. Our team has highly trained professionals who can deal with such situations efficiently,” said Satyanarayan.
