Noida Police enters cyber space

Cyber criminals beware! Noida police has a new weapon in its arsenal.

Javeed Ahmed, the Uttar Pradesh director-general of police, inaugurated the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre, complete with a forensics laboratory, in Sector 6, Noida, on Monday.

The centre will be operated from the SSP’s office. Here, police personnel will be trained on how to tackle cyber crimes.

The cost of the project is about Rs 1.25 crore, which has been raised through public-private-partnership (PPP). For setting up the lab, the district police received financial help from private players, including a few corporate houses and associations in Gautam Budh Nagar.

DGP Ahmed said, "Hatemongers on social media will now be nabbed. This lab will ensure that people who are misusing social media and committing cyber frauds will be brought to justice."

Advanced forensics facilities are only available with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). So Noida Police has to send data to forensics laboratories in Agra, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Lucknow, causing delays in investigation. With a forensics laboratory in place, the police will now be able to speed up their work.

NP Singh, FONRWA president, said, "Noida is a cyber hub and we there have been many issues of cyber crime. This facility will surely bring down cyber-crime rate in our city."
