The police said that it looked like a suicide case prima facie but as there was no suicide note, they will continue with the probe.
A 26-year-old IIT and IIM graduate committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan at his apartment in DLF-5 on Tuesday.
Mehul Priyadarshni hailed from Ranchi in Jharakhand. He did his engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, and did his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow. He was working as a strategist at Accenture.
As per the police, he joined Accenture two months and he was living in a rented apartment at Princeton Estate, DLF 5 with two of his batch mates from IIM.
The roommates belonged to Nagpur and Bhatinda. They were out of the city for Raksha Bandhan celebrations and returned on Monday evening.
“They knocked the door but he did not respond, following which they went to their respective rooms and fell asleep. On Tuesday morning, they once again knocked on his door. When he did not respond, they became suspicious. They alerted the security guards, who broke open the gate and found him hanging from the ceiling fan with the help of a bedsheet,” Vikas Kaushik, inspector, Sector 53 police station said.
The police said that the security supervisor had informed them about the suicide. After that, a team including the station house officer (SHO) reached the spot.
The police also said that it looked like a suicide case prima facie but as there was no suicide note, they will continue with the probe. They added that his mobile phone and laptop were found to be locked.
“We are interacting with Priyadarshi’s roommates, and have also seized his laptop and mobile phone for clues. The parents might also share some details which would give some clarity regarding the suicide,” Kaushik said.
The family of the victim has been informed about the incident. His elder brother is working with a bank and is posted in Aligarh.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem which will happen on Wednesday.
