Faridabad and Gurgaon parents ask for audit of private schools Parents protest outside office of divisional commissioner, Gurgaon Range, in Civil Lines on Tuesday.

Reeling under the burden of school fee hikes by private schools, parents in Gurgaon and Faridabad staged a protest before D Suresh, the divisional commissioner of Gurgaon Range, outside his office in Civil Lines on Tuesday. They sought his immediate intervention on the issue.

They handed over a memorandum requesting him to initiate the audit of 12 private schools in Faridabad and seven in Gurgaon. They alleged that private schools in these districts have surplus funds and have yet increased the fee for the current academic session.

Om Vir Kumar, convener of Dronacharya Parents Association of Gurgaon, said, “The audit of their balance sheets must be brought into the public domain to ascertain whether the increase in fee is genuine.”

The association claims that despite orders from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to the Haryana education department to stop the fee hikes, schools are collecting increased fees from parents.

Ramesh Sharma, a parent, said, “Schools are also involved in selling books and stationery items at prices higher than the market rate.”

D Suresh assured parents that he would initiate action against the erring schools. He had earlier initiated the audit of ten schools in Gurgaon.
