The residents claimed that the land couldn’t be acquired by the GDA to cover 800 meters stretch of the service road.
The residents of Amrapali Village on Sunday protested against the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for not providing a 36-meter wide service road connecting the society to the National Highway 24.
The service road, which was sanctioned by the GDA, starts from the UP Gate and continues up till Gaur Green Vista which is around 800 meters before Amrapali.
The residents claimed that the land couldn’t be acquired by the GDA to cover 800 meters stretch of the service road.
They said that as per the master-plan of the society’s last phase, the service road would have passed from its opposite side and merged at NH-24.
The residents also pointed towards the incomplete construction work which was supposed to be their main entry and exit point towards NH-24.
Currently, the residents are required to move towards Kala Patthar Road. From there, they head towards NH-24. This is also their single point of entry and exit.
“The lane is quite narrow to accommodate the traffic of a society of 1100 flats which has around 2000 cars. This leads to a severe traffic jam during morning and evening rush hours,” said Maheshwaran Nair, Secretary of Amrapali Village RWA (AVRWA).
Deepak Kumar, President of AVRWA, told City Spidey that beyond the boundary wall, a piece of land lies between society and parallel running NH-24. The land is a private property of villagers of Makanpur. The builder had promised about the acquisition of this land.
Before the sanction of the service road, the builder, during construction of phase I & II, had promised the residents will be provided a road connecting NH-24. But, during the construction of the last phase, the proposition of service road by GDA came up.
Both the builder and the authority have not been successful in acquiring the land for further construction of the service road.
“So basically, both of them have left us hanging in the midair,” said Kumar.
To resolve the issue, the residents have been going from pillar to post for last four years.
Last year in November, an alternative proposition was also put by a team of GDA official led by then Chief Engineer SC Verma, who came to survey the area after the residents meet Member of Parliament (MP) from Ghaziabad, General V.K Singh.
“After the survey, GDA officials suggested 20 meters wide and 100 meters long service road starting from our proposed gate to NH-24. The road was proposed on a GDA land next to our society,” Kumar said.
“But, since then, there has been no follow up on that,” he added.
However, Kumar informed that the proposition was put up verbally by the GDA officials and was not recorded on paper.
Kapil Tyagi, municipal councilor of the area, said that he would accompany the RWA to take up the matter once again with the area MP VK Singh.
City Spidey reached to VK Singh’s office for the comments. He was busy in public meetings, but the assurance of taking up the matter was given on his behalf.
“We will have a word with GDA regarding the matter,” they said.
