Why isn't the phone at Air Force Welfare Association ringing?

With the BSNL toll-free line down for the past four months, residents of Jal Vayu Vihar, mostly above 65, face a tough time travelling to the association to know about their pension and welfare schemes.

Why isn't the phone at Air Force Welfare Association ringing?

Retired personnel of the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy residing in Jal Vayu Vihar of Sector 21, Noida, are having a tough time with a phone lying dead at the Air Force Welfare Association of Noida.

The BSNL landline number, 0120-2542428, has been lying non-functional for the past four months.

At least 2,000 ex-servicemen are, as a result, unable to use the toll-free number for information on pension and welfare schemes.

Commander (retired) Narendra Mahajan, a resident of Jal Vayu Vihar, told City Spidey that he is forced to visit the office near Air Force Canteen in Sector 21.

Since most of the residents are above 65 years of age, it is difficult to go all the way to the office. The scorching heat has made things worse.

Wing Commander (retired) Rajesh Mohan, president of the Air Force Welfare Association, Noida, told City Spidey that they had taken up the complaint with the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) at least four times in the past. "I received an SMS informing that the complaint had been attended to and the phone was functional. But in reality, the phone was still dead," he added.

When contacted by City Spidey, RK Tiwari, division engineer of BSNL, gave a standard reply saying he would look into the matter and find out why the landline was not working. He, however, assured that now that the complaint had been registered, a technician from the department would rectify the phone line.
