SDMC sends notices to 700 houses for unauthorised construction in Najafgarh Zone

SDMC sends notices to 700 houses for unauthorised construction in Najafgarh Zone An unauthorised construction site in Sector 14.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has started taking action against illegal encroachments and unauthorised constructions in the Najafgarh Zone. Notices to the owners of such houses have already been sent and at some places sealing and demolition drive have also started, said SDMC officials.

SDMC claims that it has already booked about 700 flats in the zone for carrying out unauthorised constructions, violating the norms of municipal corporation in the area. In Dwarka, several flats in Sectors 7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18 have been booked. The flat under the scanner belong to Rosewood Apartments, Sri Awas Apartments, Netaji Subhash Apartments, Metro View Apartments, Om apartments and Radhika Apartments.

Leader of the House of SDMC Kamaljeet Sehrawat told City Spidey that all the violators would be strictly dealt with law. “We are sending notices to the violators. The corporation is determined to check any unauthorised or illegal construction under its jurisdiction.”

Although the residents welcomed the move, they still feel that the corporation is being selective in their process of choosing the violators. Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Rosewood Apartments in Sector 13, said, “They have only listed a few flats in a society, whereas the number of violators is far more. At some places, people have even constructed an extra floor, or encroached upon open spaces. Action needs to be taken against each and every one.”

Meanwhile, community workers who have been following the issue closely feel that such things are just a routine procedure for the authorities and nothing effective would come of it.

President of Dwarka Forum, Rejimon CK, who has been writing on the subject to the authorities regularly felt that the initiative is merely a formality. “The demolition drive only exists on paper. The special task force constituted for action against unauthorised constructions is only a formal step.”
