After SDMC notices, DDA starts sealing drive against illegal construction

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has started sealing drive against the unauthorised constructions in Dwarka. The officials are carrying out sealing with the help of the police force. They sealed seven unauthorised constructions at the Green View Apartments.

One of the DDA officials said on the condition of anonymity, “Drive against unauthorised constructions would continue and the violators would be treated according to law.”

Earlier in May, a sealing drive was carried out at Sri Awas Apartments against commercial activities in scooter garage of the society. 21 scooter garages were sealed which were being used for commercial purpose for a long time.

The drive was carried out after the intervention of the monitoring committee of the Supreme Court. They acted on the complaint of the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of the society.

According to DDA, the sealing was started on the complaint of the RWAs.

On the other hand, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has also started taking action against the unauthorised constructions in the area. According to SDMC, they have sent notices to the violators.

President of RWA of Green View Apartments, Bandan Kumar Singh said, “The DDA should have intervened at the time of the construction of the societies. RWA is going to write to DDA for regularisation of such construction as per the law and the new master plan including modifications for FAR (Floor Area Ratio).”

President of Dwarka Forum, Rejimon CK said, “Such kinds of actions are needed to stop encroachment and violation of laws. Civic bodies must act strictly on any such unauthorised constructions in the area.”

People said that the civic bodies start acting on violators on the complaints from the residents or the RWAs. They said that a drive must be carried out addressing all the violations according to the law and not on the particular complaint.

Naveen Kumar, a resident of Sector 12, said, “The city has many unauthorised constructions and encroachments. But, the action is being taken against few.”
