Home buyers of incomplete Amrapali projects to rely on NBCC’s future action

The home buyers of several incomplete housing projects of Amrapali Group on Sunday held a meeting under the banner of Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) to decide their next course of action.

The representatives of nearly 20 incomplete housing projects across Noida and Noida Extension gathered at West Centurion Park at Noida Extension.

In the meeting, the main agenda of discussion was the role of National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC). After the Uttar Pradesh government had earlier refused buyers’ proposal to provide fund to NBCC for completion of projects, home buyers would be relying upon NBCC’s role in the matter.

“The recent developments in the matter especially arrest of group directors following the Supreme Court’s order has once again strengthen our dying hope. But, role of NBCC is equally important as to where it would get such a huge fund to complete these projects,” K K Kaushal, one of the home buyers said.

Kaushal added that they would organise a meeting with NBCC officials and put forward their proposal.

Many home buyers during the meeting were of the view that NBCC itself should approach the Central government for fund. “It was the Central government’s decision to appoint NBCC as a consultant in the matter and it is government run body, hence, NBCC must approach the government or banks for fund,” Amit Gupta, another home buyer stated.

The government-run construction company NBCC in September had told the Supreme Court that it can take over 46,575 flats left incomplete by private developer Amrapali Group but needs Rs 8,500 crore to finish the projects.

Though, NBCC has agreed to take over all Amrapali housing projects and assured that it would complete these projects within three years. However, from where a huge amount of money would come still remains a question which will decide the fate of over 25,000 home buyers.
