Amrapali Silicon City workers demand salary on time, beaten up

As Swift Securitas pitted the workers against the builder by blaming him for delay in salary, residents are concerned about the security of the apartment.

Amrapali Silicon City workers demand salary on time, beaten up Bad omen: Security guards roaming around in the society wielding rods.

Bouncers, allegedly hired by Noida builder, beaten up five people who worked as watchmen and sanitation employees at Amrapali Silicon City, on Thursday, leaving them critically injured. According to a watchman, who was on duty at the Sector 76 residential society at the time of the incident, eight to ten bouncers struck at the basement where the workers were relaxing after their protest against the builder over delay in salary.

He told City Spidey that while thrashing the workers with sticks the bouncers were heard shouting,‘Tumhe paise chahiye, le main deta hun’ (You want salary, here I give you). They disappeared after the assault on the unassuming workers.

An FIR has been lodged with Sector 49 Police Station against four bouncers, Ganga Sagar, Gulam, Pankaj and Girish under Section 323 and 504 of IPC.

Watchmen of the apartment are peeved by the fact that their salaries are not being released on time for the last few months. Earlier, they used to get their salary by 5th of every month. Now, they get it only after 10th of the month.

Swift Securitas Private Limited, the company for which they are working, blames the builder for the delay in payment of their salaries saying he is withholding payment of its dues making it impossible to release the salary on time. Another watchman, on condition of anonymity, disclosed that they took out the protest against the builder at the instance of the manager of the security company.

Meanwhile, residents of the apartment are concerned for the security of the workers who, they say, have become pawns in the gambit of the security agency, Swift Securitas, which has tactfully lobbed the issue of payment in the builder’s court. They say they cannot remain immune to the fallout of the developments.

Sachin Upadhyay, a resident of the apartment, told City Spidey that no security guard was on duty either at the entry or exit gate of the apartment during the protest. He said, “It was a breach of security as anyone could have entered the apartment. Since robberies are reported with regular intervals, we can’t ignore the security.”

Roushan Singh (name changed on request) said after the assault, many security guards are seen roaming around every morning brandishing iron rods and other weapons. In case of any violence inside the society, residents cannot remain mute spectators. After all, it is a matter of their own security and wellbeing. Pointing out that it has become a routine with the security guards and sanitation workers to protest over salary delay every month, he said it is high time the matter was resolved once and for all.

When City Spidey tried to contact Colonel (retired) BK Dhupar, chairman and managing director of Swift Securitas Pvt Ltd, one of his colleagues informed that he is in a meeting and can’t come online. Spokesperson of Amrapali Group too did not attend our phone call.
