In order to celebrate a clean and green Diwali this year, hundreds of RWAs of various societies in Dwarka on Saturday joined hands with the police to make sure the Supreme Court’s directives on crackers are followed properly.

In a meeting, organised at Sector 10 by Federation of Cooperative Group Housing Societies, Dwarka and police, the RWA representatives were made aware of Supreme Court’s judgement. A copy of advisory was also given to the RWAs by the police to make sure the rules are properly understood.

Points given in the advisory were discussed in the meeting by the police and RWAs. ACP of the area, Rajender Singh, informed the RWAs that all the SHOs of the area would be in touch with them and they would ensure the rules are properly followed. He said that in case of violation, different actions would be taken under different acts.

Police informed the crackers would be allowed to burnt only in designated places and those places would be decided by the administration in a week. They further invited suggestions from the RWAs, asking them to share it with the civic bodies and the Delhi Government.

Replying to the question asked by residents whether they can burn crackers within the society premises, police said that those places too would be decided by the administration.

Officials and other members from various schools were also present on the occasion.

Police said that several NGOs and other social organisations would be roped in for implementing all the directives laid down by the apex court on Diwali.
