Dwarka: Societies in Sec 6 face sewer overflow; residents call for swift action

As if other issues were not enough to deal with, residents of several societies in Sector 6 are perturbed with another one – sewer overflow!

People living in the plots from 30 to 35 of that sector say they witness backflow of sewer water on society premises besides roads. Residents of the Skylark Apartments have been facing this problem for a long time but for the past couple of weeks, the situation has become unbearable.

President of the society, Colonel (Retired) Sunil Dubey shared the problem with different resident groups and appealed to them to look into the matter.

While talking to City Spidey on the issue, he said, “The problem pertaining to the blockage of sewage line has reached alarming stage. Earlier, Delhi Jal Board did not commence with the repair work due to rains. After that, the work was held up due to NGT’s ban on construction activities up to 10th of November. Now that period is over too but the work is still pending.  There is huge pressure from the residents to get this work done at the earliest.”

The issue of overflowing sewage water on the entire stretch has been the topic of talk amongst the residents and the management of these societies as they seek a permanent solution regarding this matter.

Advisor of Shivalik Apartments Managing Committee, PK Chopra said, “DJB assured swift action on the matter but it neglected the area falling within these societies walls. They attempted working at two manholes on service lanes which were completely damaged due to overflow of sewage water. Repair works were carried out but overflow continued. Actually, eighty per cent blockage of sewage pipeline is caused by solid waste which has to be removed for normal flow. They must take it seriously and give us a permanent solution.”

When we asked one of the DJB officials about the course of action his department would take regarding this issue, he said, “I am aware of the problem and the repair work would be carried out soon.
