What is more surprising is the fact that even the higher officials of the DDA are not aware of the details of these projects.
In order to promote green mode of transport and connect the community in general across Dwarka through cycling, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) introduced two projects – Cycle Sharing and Adventure Cycle Park - in 2015 but sadly, both are left in limbo even after 3 years of its announcement.
What is more surprising is the fact that even the higher officials of the DDA are not aware of the details of these projects.
For the Adventure Cycle Park project, the authority concerned earmarked a nursery at Sector 5 and erected a name board too. Besides, multiple boards with all the rules and regulations for the cycle tracks were also placed but all in vain. However, residents are still eagerly waiting for its full-fledged operations.
Rajeev Sharma, a resident of Sector 6, while talking to City Spidey said, “Whenever I see that board, I feel sad that such a wonderful project is missing. This was supposed to be completed till now but no one knows what happened? Well, I am still hopeful of it.”
Similarly, the Cycle Sharing project was introduced in order to connect the whole area through cycle stations and dedicated tracks to use but that project never took off after its formal launch by the DDA during a press conference in 2015.
When we asked one of the officials of the DDA about the projects and tried to understand what went wrong, he, on the condition of anonymity, said, ”Everything was finalised and the authority too signed agreements with National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) and Center for Green Mobility (CGM) but nothing has happened till now and the projects are hanging fire.”
The DDA signed an agreement with the NBCC for the Adventure Cycle Park project. According to a press release, biking terrains, cycling circuits, a special area for kids, a fitness centre and running tracks had to be developed.
Whereas, the project for Cycle Sharing system was prepared by the CGM, a non-profit organization, partnering DDA for planning and providing technical assistance with support from Shakti Foundation. A 100 kms of shaded cycle tracks and pedestrian walkways along with 180 cycle stations, spread over 30 sq kms of area of Dwarka, with 2500 cycles had to be developed.
