Noida

Section 144 ahead panchayat polls: The district administration has clamped Section 144 in Gautam Budh Nagar as a precautionary measure to maintain peace in the district ahead of the Panchayat elections. Hence, more than four people are not allowed to assemble. However, marriage or mourning procession is exempted from the order. Apart from the local polls, the administration cited the ongoing farmer agitation in the district as one of the reasons for the move.

Greater Noida

Auto theft gang in police net: With the arrest of three vehicle lifters police claimed to have made a big haul of stolen automobiles. The cops nabbed the three-member gang from Sakipur near Zeta-I Sector on Monday after receiving a tip off about their movement. The three accused, Sonu, 22, Mustakim, 22, and Devendra, 23, have a history of vehicle theft for which they were convicted earlier.

Gurgaon

Strike adds to power woes: Even as the city is reeling under power crisis, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) employees went on a flash strike adding to the woes of the residents. The employees are protesting the discom's decision to expel 7,500 employees in Haryana. Outages were reported from sectors 4, 14, 15, 21, 23, 47 and 49, Palam Vihar and Manesar. With engineers, linemen and technicians of the DHBVN on strike there is no one was available to repair cables and transformers.

Summer peaks, so does call for vacation: The ongoing heat wave conditions in the city prompted parents to seek early summer vacation for their wards. With the mercury soaring to new high with each passing day, the parents have approached the district administration and education department officials with a request to shut down private schools. They are concerned over the scorching heat their children have to brave every day. Most of the schools in the city are scheduled to close for summer vacation by the month-end.
