Law and order in the area seems to be at stake as more than 36 hours have passed and local police is yet to trace the car and the accused involved in the incident. The mishap occurred late Sunday, killing one and injuring another near Ganpati Chowk, opposite Manzil Apartments in Sector 9.
Unfortunately, the case is turning out to be a ‘blind murder’ for the cops as lack of evidence makes it more complicated.
However, police will continue its investigation into the Mercedes logo found at the site, suspecting it to be involved in the case. Meanwhile, it is working on making a list of 4000 Mercedes car owners, which is to be further narrowed down.
When City Spidey spoke to a police official and asked about the person who informed them about the incident, he said, “The one who called us was not at the spot when the accident happened. He works at a call centre and was returning home from work when he saw two injured persons lying on the road with fruits everywhere. He then dialled 100. The spot does not have any CCTV cameras, hence we are looking at footage from adjacent roads.”
Earlier, presidents of neighbouring apartments, Ganpati and Manzil, said they are ready to provide the camera footages to help police in their investigation. However, they were not sure about getting any clues from it as the cameras installed capture only the service lane (main road).
Prime facie, it seems the two fruit vendors — Sarvesh (35) and Inder (30) — were hit from behind by a speeding car. Sarvesh was brought dead to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital whereas Inder, the other victim, was admitted to Ayushman Hospital and said to be out of danger.
