When ‘golden era’ of Bollywood came alive at an old-age home

Singers traced the journey of the music by crooning hit numbers bringing the golden era of Hindi cinema at the centrestage

When ‘golden era’ of Bollywood came alive at an old-age home A DSK singer performing at the concert. Performers swayed audience by rendition of old Bollywood hits.

Godhuli, an old-age home in Sector 3, resonated with Bollywood music of bygone era on Monday when Dwarka Kala Sargam (DKS) performed for the inmates. The music group represented by music enthusiasts from various Dwarka societies though caters to the taste of all age groups, it is predominantly a forum of senior citizens of the sub city.

In keeping with the taste of the senior citizens, performers dished out melodies from old Bollywood numbers for the occasion. Soulful rendition of old hits by singer after singer kept the audience in a reminiscent spell throughout the concert. The performers traced the journey of the music by crooning hit numbers like ‘Jhoom jhoom jhumru’, ‘Pukarta chala Hoon Mai’, ‘Tera Jana‘ etc. etc.

Some old-timers also sang some duets for the oldies to reminisce their youthful days.

Secretary of DKS and a resident of Mass Apartments Sector 10, Shashi Jain, said, “During the two-hour long concert, singers kept the audience spellbound. Inmates of Godhuli were so overtaken by the musical extravaganza that some came on the stage to felicitate the singers.”

While some from the audience were seen clapping in tune with the rhythm, others were listening in rapt attention. Chief guests on the occasion were the inmates of Godhuli who constitute a large family of 61 senior and super senior citizens.

He thanked Col Gulveer Singh of Godhuli for providing an opportunity to serve senior citizens.

The singers who performed on the occasion are: Karuna Srivstava, Promila Malik, Shobha, Ramesh Bhatnagar, Rakesh Sharma, DP Sharma, RK Jain, Jayalakshmi, Kamlesh Soni, Ritu Dogra, Kanwaljeet and Amarjeet Singh Sohal Deepak Malik, Manju Vishwanathan among others. They belong to various societies of Dwarka including Seema Apartments of Sector 11, Jagran Apartments of Sector 22, Guru Apartments of Sector 6, Mass Apartments of Sector 10, Prodyogiki Apartments of Sector 3 etc.

About the DKS, Secretary Shashi Jain said, “We all are singers by hobby. While some among us are professional singers, others sing for their personal satisfaction. The music group is the result of our individual and collective effort. We prefer songs from the golden era of Bollywood to reminisce our younger days.”
