Seven persons arrested for violating NGT norms in Noida

The district administration on Monday arrested seven persons for violating the rules of National Green Tribunal (NGT). The action was taken after the inspection by City Magistrate, officials of Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) and police at Gardenia Gateway in Sector 75 of Noida.

As per an official, the inspection was carried out to check dust pollution at construction sites and violation of environment norms.

The official said, “The district magistrate had instructed the officials to carry out inspections in their respective areas. They were told to ensure compliance of green norms. The action was taken in the wake of deteriorating air pollution levels in the city.”

He added that the NGT had issued guidelines to the developers to ensure use of sprinklers, green and air barriers last year.

City Magistrate, Shailendra Mishra said that the action was taken against the builder as he had not paid Rs 5 lakh penalty which was imposed on him after the violation of NGT norms. “Two mixture trucks were seized and seven persons were arrested for violating norms. The arrested persons included a supervisor and plant operators,” he added.

An official of UPPCB, Utsav Sharma said, “During the inspection, construction materials were found uncovered. It was also found that the construction materials were not covered with green sheets. The sprinkling of water on sand was not done by them as well. An illegal crusher was also seized from Patwari village”

District Magistrate, BN Singh said, “The NGT guidelines should be followed by the builders. Strict actions will be taken against the violators. The team will carry out more inspections in the coming days.”
