A septuagenarian, Indrajeet Jain, is on cloud nine after finding new friends at his Heritage Tower Society in Dwarka. He used to be a loner with a limited number of friends. But, now he is blessed to have around a hundred friends in his society itself.

He said, “I had a very limited number of friends. Now, I am very happy to spend time with new friends. People, with whom I had never interacted, are now my friends. We read newspapers and chat together. This is a very wonderful experience for me.”

Jain is not alone who is happy after finding new friends. There are many other senior citizens who share the same feeling.

All these things have become successful with the efforts of the management committee of the society. They have made endeavours to connect all the senior citizens and are also taking care of their daily needs.

The management has formed a new group called ‘Senior Citizen Forum of Heritage Tower.’ Now, the senior citizens are sharing their good and bad times with each other. They are also celebrating important occasions like birthdays and marriage anniversaries together.

President of the society, Arun Srivastava said to City Spidey, “We had this idea to create community feeling among residents especially senior citizens. So, we formulated this group. We were surprised to know that there are about a hundred senior citizens in our society. We are happy that they have found new friends to celebrate life.”

He added that a WhatsApp group has also been formed for the senior citizens. They are now connected with each other on their phones as well.

The management of the society has also made a detailed list of senior citizens with contact numbers and family and health details. A monitoring committee has also been set up to take care of the needs of the senior citizens. They ensure that the elders get desired facilities well on time.

A lady member of the committee, Anjana Handa pays a visit to senior citizens at their homes and talk to them about their lives. She shared that the elders get very satisfied while sharing their lives and issues with her. Other members are also involved in meeting with the senior citizens.

Srivastava added, “We also take feedback from the senior citizens. We also talk to the senior citizens who are alone. We ask them whether there is any health issue with them. We ask if they need any assistance. I have also directed the society’s manager to attend calls of the senior citizens and provide them with all help as soon as possible. Our focus is to make them feel important and loved.”
