Faulty traffic signals make commuters vulnerable in Noida

With faulty traffic signals at many intersections, the commuters are under constant threat of accidents in Noida. The absence of traffic police at these intersections are adding to the woes.

People are getting more sceptical as winter fog, especially in the early hours, may make things worse for them.

Signals at the sector 12/56 intersection, sector 10 intersection, sector 22/23 intersection, near sector 15 intersection, several others on the internal roads of sectors 62 and 63, are faulty at present.

Commuters said that the traffic police are also failing to act on the complaints they lodged on the recently launched traffic application. There are 105 intersections with traffic signals in the city.

“The sector 12/22, 12/56 and 22/23 intersections are other busy points which witness a huge traffic volume daily. Apart from the private vehicles, a large number of shared autorickshaws ply on these roads causing traffic jams,” Shivam Mishra, a resident of Sector 77 said.

RP Singh, Executive Engineer of Noida Authority said that they have the responsibility of taking care of traffic signals. “The tender of the company, which takes care of the traffic signals, got over in 2017. There was no hiring of any other agency after that,” Singh said.

Noida traffic police have 168 police personnel. Out of them, 42 are on VIP duty in several cities, and 35 are on leave.

At present, the traffic problem is taken care of by 22 constables only. But, there are 70 traffic marshals who manage the traffic of the city. The city’s population is more than 10 lakh.
