Disappointed with the developer, residents of A Block in Sushant Lok Phase I, Gurgaon, pooled in Rs 6 lakh to build a half-kilometre road in the block.
Anil Khare, general secretary of A Block, said, “Our basements are submerged in water when it rains. The situation has gone from bad to worse in the past five or six years. So we decided to set up a forum to address the issue. We have taken over maintenance work from Profac, the agency responsible for collecting maintenance charges, and will not pay a single penny to them in future.”
Harswardhan Bhardwaj, a resident, said, “There are 500 families living in A Block alone and despite having paid maintenance charges of Rs 2.7 per yard, the developer — Ansals group — has not addressed civic issues in the past three years.”
JP Garg, another resident, said that residents have discussed the issue with the developer and officials of Profac, but to no effect. Residents have even registered complaints with the Haryana Urban Development Authority and the chief minister’s office.
However, apathy from the developer and civic issues are not their only concerns. Residents allege that Profac was using force to collect maintenance charges from them. According to Ved Saraogi, "About seven musclemen came to my house and threatened my family. They said our sewer and power connections would be disconnected if we did not pay the bills right away. We have already paid the due maintenance charges, so how they can send people and ask for more money?"
Sushant Lok Phase I is one of the oldest upscale societies in Gurgaon, with more than 4,000 families living in it, including some top politicians and businessmen.
