Will these 6 rules ensure safe lifts?

The Federation of Apartment Owners Associations (FedAOA), Ghaziabad, has worked out a few suggestions for the UP Lift Act. Check these out:

1.  Rs 50,000. Yes, that's how much those responsible for a lift accident should have to cough up as fine. One could be put behind bars too.

2. The owner of the building or his agent in charge of lift inspection should be held responsible in case of an accident.

3. If a lift/escalator maker or maintenance company ignores safety and maintenance provisions resulting in an accident, well, they should also be prosecuted.

4. Inspectors appointed by the state government should be informed about every minor and major accident.

5. RWAs should, of course, provide support to the inspectors during routine checks.

6. And, every owner should employ an authorised person for maintenance of the lifts.
