Disappointed with the civic agencies' approach and upset with the poor upkeep of these stretches, the RWAs of several societies in the area are taking the much-needed initiative.
While visiting Dwarka, you will witness that some of the stretches along the roadsides have been developed into ‘green areas’ with proper fencing. Well, this has become a trend now as RWAs and management of several societies across the sub-city are willingly involving themselves in maintaining such stretches to promote cleanliness across the place.
The recent one has been developed by the management of Sawan Cooperative Group Housing Society (Heritage Tower Apartments), located in Sector 3. Residents have turned the deserted and filthy green portion in front of the society into a developed area. They are maintaining it by planting saplings.
However, people across several societies are unhappy with the careless approach of the civic agencies.
President of Sawan CGHS, Arun Srivastava told City Spidey, “We made this effort because the civic bodies concerned were least bothered to keep it clean and green. We now feel happy when we see it in a good shape.”
Dream Apartments, located in Sector 22, is one of those few societies which took the initiative of developing the deserted stretches into clean and green portions a few years back. Recalling those days, president Anil Rai said, “We changed the stretch in front of our society into a small green garden with various plants and trees. Earlier, it was used as a dumping ground. Besides, pet dogs were made to ease themselves. Hence, our management committee decided to take over this area to develop it properly. We just tried to spread the message of keeping the area clean and green. Now, there are only a few deserted stretches left which need to be developed.”
When City Spidey spoke to Randhir Singh, president of Surya Apartments, and asked him about the need and the change he sees now, Singh shared, “We were actually fed up with the poor condition of the stretch in front of our society. It was deserted and giving a filthy look. We made it beautiful with ornamental plants and trees as it has helped in keeping the surroundings clean. Now no one tries to litter that area. So the effort has ultimately paid off.”
