With an aim to improve the last-mile connectivity for commuters, the Noida Metro’s Aqua Line will soon have bicycles and e-bikes at stations.
According to PD Upadhyay, executive director of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), they are already in talks with companies who can provide this facility. “It would be finalized soon. Some stations will have the facility of bicycles and e-bikes for the convenience of the commuters.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has already given the line a green signal and the base fare for the travel has been approved. The residents are now eagerly awaiting opening of the line.
The facility of bicycles would be particularly beneficial for residents of societies located near metro stations. “Nowadays, people enjoy cycling, especially students and youngsters. This will add to their convenience of reaching the stations,” Upadhyay said.
To enjoy the facility, people will need to submit ID proof and pay a fixed rent. The bicycles and bikes available at the metro stations would be equipped with GPS to track location of the commuters, thereby adding to their safety.
