Besides improving safety, this is good ground training for guards.
Under the scheme, five guards — one each from five different societies — patrol the area from 12 pm to 4 am. They do a recce of isolated stretches, parks and other vulnerable areas.
Area ACP Rajender Singh said, “A roster of duty for this month has been issued by SHOs of Dwarka sub division and circulated to all concerned CGHS. The proposal of joint patrolling is optional, but the hope is all CGHS will participate in it.”
General secretary of DJA Apartments in Sector 13 said, “We have received a letter from the police about Prahari. We are up for it and we have talked to some other societies in the locality as well to join the initiative.”
Recently, in Sector 13, RWAs and managements of about 20 societies discussed security issues with Dwarka ACP, and decided to adopt Prahari.
At the same time, police mitras — civil volunteers for policing — are also carrying out patrols in the sectors with teams of local police in the evening. They are roaming in the area from 8 pm to 11 pm.
This joint surveillance has brought the problem of open drinking under quite a bit of control.
Indu Garg, a police mitra from Sector 22, said, “Parks certainly feel safer now after dark.”
Talking to City Spidey, ACP further said, “It’s the people who have started policing their respective areas — we are merely assisting and guiding them. In fact, no major incidents of theft or burglaries from CGHS took place in the area since the system of joint patrolling started.”
