Sealing issue erupts again in I'puram; traders' body holds protest rally, bandh

The Vyapari Ekta Samiti of Indirapuram on Thursday held a protest rally and called bandh following the issuance of 250 notices by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to seal them, terming all as illegal.

The impact of bandh was evident across the area as shops around Shipra Sun City, Neeti Khand, Abhay Khand and Ahinsa Khand were on a complete shutdown. Over 500 traders joined the protest, expressing their solidarity against this long-pending issue.

However, Indirapuram Vyapar Mandal did not support this protest though they were the ones who lead from the front when the GDA sealed over 35 shops last year.

"We decided not to participate as MP VK Singh was going to meet us and discuss this issue. Besides, it was not required when a representative of the government is ready to hear our grievances,” Ombeer Yadav, president of the Vyapar Mandal said.

Meanwhile, talking to City Spidey on this issue, several traders echoed just one thing and that is state government and local administration’s empathy towards their livelihood.

Pradeep Gupta, president of Vyapari Ekta Mandal of Indirapuram, expressed traders’ concerns and their point of view about this contentious issue. Besides, questions and replies were exchanged related to encroachments, GST and the impact of sealing in the coming elections.

The Ghaziabad Development Authority in November last year sealed over 35 shops in Niti Khand and Abhay Khand of Indirapuram, calling them illegal commercial units, operating out of residential areas in the township.
