Dwarka: Thieves burgle locked flat at Metro View Apartments

The thieves on Saturday night burgled a locked flat at Metro View Apartments in Dwarka. They ransacked flat number 524 and taken away jewellery and other valuable stuffs.

According to the RWA and neighbours, the owner of the flat, Rakesh, lives outside Delhi and his son lives at a hostel in Haryana.

When the owner of the flat knew about the incident, he visited his flat and informed the police about the incident.

He said, “I got a call from my neighbour around 7 am that my door was open and the incident happened. He himself called the police. I reached there around 8 am and got to know through CCTV footage that the incident happened at around 1.30 am. I called my parents in Odisha and informed them about it. Police has taken the details.”

Rakesh used to visit his flat once in a week. “An uncle, who lives in nearby flat, saw the door open while he was going to take milk. He initially thought that I had come. When he returned, he again saw the door open. He got suspicious and entered the flat to know about the burglary. He called the police,” he said.

According to RWA and police, the thieves entered in the society after cutting the barbed wires in the back lane. The RWA held poor lighting in the back lane responsible for the incident.

President of RWA, Vinod Rawat said, “This back lane is along the drain and is completely dark. Anti social elements often use this lane. It is unfortunate that the civic bodies are not taking it seriously. Either this should be closed completely or maintained properly.”

People on the spot said that the door was locked from outside. Also the interlocking system was not locked. It was easier for thieves to access the flat. The RWA informed that the faces of the thieves are not clear in the CCTV footage. The CCTV footage has been handed over to the police.

The case has been registered at Dwarka North Police station and investigation has been started.

The Sector 13 area is yet to be included in the Prahari Scheme. Under this, guards patrol in the area throughout the whole night. It has been learnt that the no such incidents have been reported in the areas where Prahari Scheme has been operational.
