The members of Dwarka Forum met Deputy Director of DDA’s Horticulture Department, Dwarka, Jameel Ahmed, on Saturday to discuss several issues like development and maintenance of parks, tree plantation on road dividers and violation of rules in pruning trees inside housing complexes.

The members also discussed handover of parks to South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) from DDA, which has been in the pipeline for a while. President of Dwarka Forum, Sushil Kumar, said, “We want to know about ongoing projects so that we can effectively participate in them and help the authorities.”

On the subject of pruning of trees, the members said that rules are being violated by both the authority as well as community. “We have told the director about trees that require pruning as they are covering traffic signals or street light poles. Also, many trees are being used to hang cables by various operators that needs to be stop immediately,” said Sushil.

The members have also demanded that boundary walls, gates, jogging tracks of various parks that are in a dilapidated condition shall be repaired at the earliest. P Menon, treasurer and a resident of Ashirwad Apartments in Sector 12, said, “We have asked for timely removal of horticulture waste and its composting. We have also requested DDA to display the list of horticulture officials and their contact numbers in each area so that anyone could access them.”

It was decided in the meeting that the forum in association with the Horticulture Department and other agencies like DDA, BSES and Traffic Police will conduct a survey of the sub city to locate trees covering traffic signals and street lights.
