Noida Extension: Man accidentally shoots daughter while cleaning the gun

In a tragic incident, a girl was shot in the head after a gun her father was cleaning accidentally went off. The two-year-old girl, Yati Sharma, had been living with her family at Panchsheel Greens in Noida Extension for the past one year.

The girl died while being treated in Columbia Asia Hospital in Ghaziabad.

The incident took place on February 24, when Vikas Sharma, the father, was cleaning his licensed pistol. The girl was playing on the bed in front of Vikas, while the mother was busy in kitchen.

The bullet struck the child in the head, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Raj Kumar Sharma, SHO of Kavi Nagar Police Station, said, “The hospital informed the police on Tuesday. The girl died at 4 am today during the treatment. The body has been sent for autopsy and police is waiting for the report.”  

The postmortem report will be sent to Bisrakh police station, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred.

Manoj Pathak, SHO of Bisrakh Police Station, said investigation will begin once they are handed over the report.

He added, “In such cases, license of the accused is cancelled and an accidental death FIR is lodged.”

The family has refused to talk to the press.
