A 34-year-old property dealer died after his speeding BMW car crashed into a tree near the Sector 93 red light during the wee hours on Saturday.

According to police, the car lost its control when it hit a barricade placed near the traffic intersection before crashing into the tree. “The incident happened at 5 am and police was informed by passersby around 6 am,” police said.

The deceased, Rohit Gupta, was a resident of ATS Village society in Sector 93. He was returning home from a birthday party when the incident happened.

There was a lot of damage to the SUV after the accident. Most damage was done in the front resulting in serious injuries to the dealer’s head. He was declared dead on spot.

The speed of the car would have been around 120 km per hour. Police assumed that the deceased was in drunken state. His body was sent for autopsy and police are waiting for the final reports.

“When we heard the sound of the accident, we rushed to the spot and saw that the car was lying overturned on a side on the road. We took out the injured persons,” said Kamal, a tea maker near the accident spot.

“The body was stuck amid the damaged portion of the car and was bleeding profusely. I called the 100 number at least five times but the call did not connect,” he added.
