Dwarka: Commuters’ prolonged struggle on dilapidated road not coming to end

The story of bad roads does not seem to be coming to an end in Dwarka. The master plan road near Football House and Bharat Vandana Apartments is in very bad condition in Sector 19. The 200-metre long stretch is full of big potholes and cracks between Football House and Command Tank.

Upper surface of the road has been completely damaged. The commuters are finding it really tough to move on the road. The nearby residents and daily commuters informed that the road is in bad condition for last two years.

Regular commuters also complained that bad state of road has also damaged their vehicles. Bikers are the most affected as the potholes can lead to accidents on this road.

PK Singh, a resident of Sector 23 said, “This particular stretch is very important from the point of view that it saves a lot of time for the commuters. People use it despite being in bad condition. This stretch connects Sector 19 to Sectors 20, 22, 23 and provides exit from Dwarka towards Haryana. There is a need for its urgent repair.”

Many RWAs and residents of the area have been complaining about it on various forums on social media but nothing has been done yet.

Vice president of Dwarka Forum and a resident of Bharat Vandana Apartments in Sector 19, Sunil Sareen said, “I have shared the issue on Twitter and Facebook in the past. I have also mailed to different authorities so that it could be repaired on urgent basis. But, there has been no improvement in the situation. We have also sent letters to Ministry of Urban Development, LG, DDA etc.”

On the subject, DDA said that the master plan roads of the area had to be handed over to PWD which is under process.

On the condition of anonymity, an official said, “Small repairing works have been done in Dwarka and this particular stretch was also taken. But, master plan roads need proper dense carpeting which was only possible after transfer of roads to PWD.”
