DJB realises its folly, restores water supply to United India

After a long wait of almost seven months, United India Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, have, finally, started getting water from Delhi Jal Board (DJB), thanks to City Spidey’s report highlighting the woes of the residents.

The report was published with the headline "Not a drop to drink, but water bills to bear."

Water supply to the apartment was abruptly discontinued on November 26, 2015. Since then, the residents have been using groundwater or bottled water as they did not get a drop of water from the supply line. But that did not stop the DJB from issuing the society an inflated bill of Rs 1,94,607.

After receiving the bill, the residents met the Deputy Director (Revenue) of DJB on May 18 and apprised him about the entire matter. Two days after this meeting, a DJB official, who was sent to the apartment for inspection, found no dues pending against the society. After receiving his report, the board restored the supply with immediate effect.

Now that the matter is settled, the DJB has assured the society that it will be exempted from payment of the Rs 1,94,607 bill.

Chandra Bhan, President of United India Apartments, thanked City Spidey for highlighting the issue in its report without which, he said, authorities would not have taken note of the plight of the society.

“We met the Deputy Director a day after City Spidey carried the report. At the meeting, we were pleasantly surprised to get a positive response from him. If not for City Spidey’s cooperation, the issue would not have been resolved so soon."
